BIO: Over the course of her career, Annie has embodied her mission through her professional and personal work, working tirelessly to create pathways towards sustainable systems, educate people and advocate for equitable policy. Annie is inspired to do this work because of her own experiences as a sexual abuse survivor and fertility patient. Her personal experiences of trauma and inequity, illuminated for Annie how broken our systems are and what needs to be fixed for all genders. She is motivated to use her privilege to shine light on these issues and move the needle towards equitable opportunities for all, and amplify marginalized voices.
Annie’s activist career began as a child but was fine tuned while in college and graduate school.
Annie studied women’s history and ultimately earned a master’s in the field. While in undergraduate and graduate school, Annie led and organized several women’s rights organizations. Following her post-graduate studies, Annie joined Teach For America.
In 2013 Annie co-founded Youth Alliance Yoga after recognizing a gap in girl empowerment programming. She created one of the largest after school companies with the mindset that empowerment work must be proactive rather than reactionary. In 2017, Youth Alliance Yoga expanded their programming to include boys because Annie believes that we will never see gender equity until boys and men become allies.
While leading Youth Alliance Yoga, Annie began teaching Gender Justice courses through the Women and Gender Studies Department at Roosevelt University. Throughout her tenure Annie has taught courses on Gender Justice and Action, Advocacy, & Resistance. Her work in the classroom has given her the space to do academic research on gender identity and roles, specifically focusing on young children and motherhood.
Annie’s expertise in the classroom and ability to build a business that consistently increased in profits led Annie and her co-founder Jill to found Mission Propelle. Through Mission Propelle, Annie has helped shift work environments to be more sustainable for parent employees. Annie is often invited to speak publicly on issues of time management, activism and building resiliency.
Beyond the work day, Annie spends time with her incredibly vivacious and silly children. When she is not mom-ing or working full-time, she is politically organizing people to register to vote and push progressive policy. She sits on a number of boards and advisory councils.
